DocuClue is built so that your documents stay with you. This page explains what that means in practice, and the small amount of information we do collect.

Your files

When you add photos or PDFs to DocuClue, they are opened and processed by the browser on your own device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we cannot see them. When you close the tab, the files are gone from DocuClue. The file you save goes wherever your browser saves downloads.

When a photo goes into a PDF, DocuClue redraws it. This removes hidden details stored inside the photo, such as the GPS location where it was taken and the phone model.

Anonymous usage counts

To see which tools people use and what to fix, the site sends us short notes when you open it, save a file, see an upgrade message or open the help. Each note says what happened (for example "saved a PDF with Make PDF, 2 to 5 MB, IRCC passport preset"), your browser language, whether you are on the web or a phone app, and a random number that your browser makes up so we can count visitors without knowing who they are. Our servers work out your country from the connection and then discard the IP address; it is not stored with these notes.

These notes never contain file names, file contents, or anything you type into a document. We do not use cookies for this, and no advertising or third-party tracking companies are involved.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, DocuClue does not send these notes at all.

What is stored on your device

DocuClue saves a few things in your browser's local storage: your language, your saved settings (such as a name and a portal's size limit), how many PDFs you made today on the Free plan, the random visitor number described above and, if you sign in, a sign-in token. You can clear them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

The app also stores its own program files on your device so it loads quickly and works offline. These are not your documents.

Accounts

You don't need an account to use the Free plan. If you sign in, for example to use a paid plan, we keep your email address, the country and language you signed in from, when you last used DocuClue, and your plan. Signed-in usage notes are linked to your account so we can help you if something goes wrong.

Waitlist and support messages

If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, the plan you're interested in, and your country and language, so we can tell you once when it opens. If you contact support, we keep your message, your email address, and basic details such as which part of the app you were using and your browser, so we can answer you. Please don't send us your documents.

Payments

Paid plans are not open yet. When they are, card payments will be handled by Stripe and in-app purchases by Apple or Google, and they will receive the details needed to take the payment. We will never see or store your full card number.

Where the data lives and for how long

Our servers are run by us on a hosting provider in the European Union. We keep usage notes for up to 25 months, support conversations for up to 3 years, and account and billing records as long as the law requires. We do not sell data.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@docuclue.com.

Children

DocuClue is a general tool and is not directed at children under 13.
